The New BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe Has Appeared In Leaked Photos

The four-door Gran Coupe version of BMW's 8-series has been given an early debut via some leaked images
The New BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe Has Appeared In Leaked Photos

The official reveal of the BMW 8-series Gran Coupe is almost upon us, but for the impatient among you, here’s an early look. These images were published on Bimmerpost, giving us our clearest look yet at the four-door version of the 8-series coupe.

It’s all the same stuff underneath as the two-door 8er, but the wheelbase has been stretched to make the rear part of the cabin a little more commodious. The roofline has been raised, too.

The rear shot crops out the badging so we don’t know for sure which model we’re looking at, but the lack of M badge by the side gill leads us to believe it’s not the M850i. There will definitely be a V8-powered range-topper, though - a Porsche Panamera Turbo-bothering M850i GC has been spotted undergoing testing at the Nurburgring multiple times.

In fact, the 8-series coupe/convertible engine line-up will almost certainly be carried over wholesale. That means along with the M850i there’ll be an 840i GC powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo petrol and an 840d diesel using a derv unit of the same size. Eventually, a 592bhp M8 Gran Coupe should join the ranks, as previewed by the M8 GC concept revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last year.

The sole interior shot of the BMW 8-series Gran Coupe confirms the car will - unlike the two-door version - have seating for three in the back

Will the 8-series GC have the chops to take on the likes of the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes CLS and Audi A7 Sportback? We’ll find out soon.

🎺🎺thank mr skeltal

I can alredy imagine this car will earn numerous awards for the worst middle seat in the entire industry. The seat surface is about 1” higher than the other 2 seats which limits headroom even more, plus you have the pointy shoulder section of the seats pressing against your shoulders. If you want to have individual back seats, you can’t have 3 seats in the back, at least not in a car. In a Transit or a Multivan maybe, but not in a luxury sedan.

Well, it’s sorta weird IMO. Like they wanna settle for the “usually seats four, occasionally seats five” situation but they want to keep the four people comfy so they sacrificed the fifth

I’m pretty sure it might be a four seat layout like it is in the Mercedes CLS

I feared the 8 Series might look awkward as a four-door, but it’s actually just as sexy as the coupe. Well done BMW!

Looks a lot like the Kia Stinger. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Honestly I’d have the Stinger..

For all the good things to say about that car, the interior is SO nice and more importantly the seats are like heaven, very cozy.

The interior of this BMW looks like an early 2000s concept car which also completely ignores human ergonomics

by far BMW’s best-looking Gran Coupe to date, all the others were hideous

I’m happy that it’s back but a bit bummed about the looks. It’s really beautiful but it takes a tad too much not to mistake it for an F90 or a G11.
