New Cupra Formentor Spotted In Camouflage
Cupra’s first wholly in-house car has been spotted in final testing, with its camouflage failing to hide the fact that it has changed little from the concept of 2019.
The Formentor is a low(er)-slung crossover that aims to blend the performance and dynamism of a hot hatch with the seat height and body shape of an SUV.Few obvious alterations have been made since Cupra revealed the full thing to gauge public reaction last year. You must have liked it.
It still has four (yay!) exhausts in the same location and configuration, the headlight and grille shapes are the same, and from what we can see, it’s likely to maintain the full-width light bar at the rear.
Cupra has previously said the Formentor will be lower, wider and longer than the Ateca to tip the balance of design and intent further back towards hot hatch form – distancing itself from the Cupra Ateca. Inside, it’s set to feature a digital dashboard and luxurious materials because its purpose is to act as a flagship for all that Cupra will stand for in the next few decades.
As for power, we don’t know for sure what the Formentor will be launched with but Cupra is very keen to hybridise the car. The concept featured a 241bhp petrol-electric hybrid system using a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-pot in tandem with a single electric motor and a DSG dual-clutch automated transmission.
It is able to drive a theoretical 30 miles on electric power alone. It’s not clear whether the specs will be left more or less as per the concept or whether Cupra will push for a greater reliance on the battery side of things. A full reveal is expected within 12 months.

I’m already feeling sick looking at it, even with the camo
Oh, an SUV
An SUV which Cupra have said to have lowered to make it better to drive. So it’s a hatchback platform turned into an SUV and then lowered to the ride height of a hatchback.
It is the most confused product coming to market.
If it can handle like a hot hatch i can see this being a big seller. It looks pretty good , and looks practical.
If it has the performance to back it up i am sure this will be a sales success as long they don’t price it too high.
And hopefully if they can sell big numbers of this they can still make hot hatches as well.
The new Seat Fermentor.
I would love to own one of these if I lived in Europe that is.
