New Digital Valvetrain Engine Gives Diesel Efficiency On Petrol Engines
The pursuit of low emissions is serious business. Companies are trying all sorts of engineering tricks to get rid of as much carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides as they can.
A small engineering firm in the Midlands might have come up with an astounding solution, by ditching the camshaft altogether.
Camcon Auto has developed a fully electronic system it calls Intelligent Valve Actuation (IVA). In essence, an electronic control module sits on top of the engine and directly controls each valve with a rotary actuator.
With full electronic control over each individual valve, IVA can adjust any part of the engine’s airflow to the tiniest degree and at any time.
The net result is a reduction of emissions by up to 20 per cent, while also promising an improvement in power, driveability and performance. With infinite control over the engine timing, the IVA unit can provide exactly what the driver needs at any given time.
The IVA system has been designed so that it can fit onto existing conventional engines, eliminating the need for any expensive additional engine development, and could be on the market in as little as three years.

Does it run on Microsoft 10?
Hopefully not because it will crash every time you start
And can it run Crysis?
Similar to the Koennigsegg concept of solenoid valves.
In comparison, Koenigsegg’s Free Valve System seems much more futurist. The IVA seems to bridge the gap between the traditional camshaft and Koenigsegg’s Free Valve using conventional methods.
I don’t know a massive amount about either system, but they seem like 2 implementations of the same thing. The FV system seems to use electro-hydraulic systems, where this uses electromechanical rotation converted to linear motion. I really don’t see how one or other can be considered “better” until they’ve both been tested side by side. If you know why FV is more “futurist” then I’d love details (because I don’t have many, just what I could find via google).
I would love to see this tech (either/or - whichever is better) on every new engine within a couple of years. Might even give internal combustion a few more years of breathing space before Tesla stomps on our favorite toys.
Koenigsegg are having issues with the pneumatic FreeValve system cuz it isnt consistent enough in different scenarios
it’s basicaly like opel’s cih, it filled the gap between overhead valve and overhead cam
We are one step away from actual GT-R Computer . . . .

Vtec?
Who’s Iva?
no replacement for torque
Yes, IVA. Lol
Dude I have a question
Well, it’s nice to see companies still trying to keep combustion engines alive. It’s not that I’m against electric cars, but we’re called “petrolheads” for a reason!
I’ll openly admit that i’m against electric cars, and everything they stand for.
IVA is an actual traditional Croatian name. Tons of girls in my town are called IVA.
Tell them, that they can control your camshaft any time they want😂. Jk don’t do it, that’s how you get castrated for free.
