The New Ford Ranger Raptor Is Powered By A 2.0 Diesel Engine
Upset about the latest Ford F-150 Raptor going from V8 to turbo V6 power? You may want to sit down before reading further. The Ranger - Ford’s ‘Global’ pick-up - has been given the Raptor treatment, and it’s received an even smaller powerplant. A 2.0-litre turbodiesel, to be exact.
But stick with us, as that inline-four oil-burner does actually sound quite interesting. It’s a twin-turbo setup using a small high-pressure turbocharger and a larger low-pressure unit, working together to make a useful 210bhp and a thumping 369lb ft. It’s hooked up to a variation of the 10-speed automatic gearbox used for the facelifted sixth-generation Mustang.
As you’d expect, Ford has worked hard to upgrade the Ranger in the off-road badassery department. As such, the ‘Raptified’ pick-up gets beefy Fox Racing Shox dampers all round, a wider track, and an increase in ground clearance to 283mm.
Fancy doing some jumps? You’ll be able toe make use of the stiffened steel side-rails, specifically designed “to absorb off-road high speed impacts.” The flared front wings are made from composite materials meanwhile, with the intention of resisting the “dents and dings often associated with off-road usage.”
The Raptor’s 17-inch wheels are wrapped in chunky BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, and when it comes to braking you’ll find larger diameter pistons in the calipers and 332mm ventilated discs on the front axle. The rotors at the back are the same size, paired with new calipers.
The boggo Ranger is already being sold in the UK, so does that mean we’ll be getting the Raptor version too? We’ll have to wait and see. A spokesperson told us that Ford UK is lobbying for the car to be sold on our shores, the justification being that the Ranger is Britain’s best-selling pick-up.
For now though, we want to ask you: is this a worthy bearer of the Raptor name, or does it have the whiff of being a cash-in? Let us know your thoughts in the comments…

‘Murica f yeah
Tbh it doesn’t make much sense to have this car in the international markets, the USA is the only country which has a high demand for pickups, and this being aimed internationally..idk tbh
Edit: hooo shet there’s a tonne of demand 😂😂
Also, any updates on the bot issue?
Big demand for this car here in South Africa. It’s the second best selling pickup. We buy pickups like crazy here. The Mercedes X class was even designed with South Africa in mind. I’m guessing so farmer’s wives can drive that instead of a Toyota Hilux
Last I’ve visited Europe, When I was in Switzerland, I saw loads of Rangers over there as well as Ivecos, X class, etc.

Also please see Adnan’s update on the homepage!
What if they used a beefed-up version of the 2.3L ecoboost 4 Cylinder in the Focus RS?
Fuel economy will go rocketing down…diesels will attract more buyers,
also it doesn’t need to have any performance xD
My thoughts. They even sell the Ranger with this 2.3 engine in the USA.
Diesel as more torque
My off-roader grandpa needs one of these. He has already has a ‘16 Ranger.
#WeWarnedYou
I know V6s logically will give you more power when uptuned, but I don’t see what’s wrong with a V8 tho…
Weight, size, Fords overall commitment to fuel economy.
If they wanted to go diesel then why don’t use the 3.2 liters 5 banger that is in use for the European Ranger?
My question Exactly. Imagine the embarrassment of Ford if the FX4 or Wildtrack are faster than the actual raptor ranger.
just a random dude(I Liek Mudkips)(JDMsquad)(McLaren FTW)(still love everything)(#Pokemon Squad)(Upvote Warhead)(LFASQUAD)
It’s happened ;)
What? The fixing of CT bots? Good, someone go inform the CT refugees in DT
Why not an NA V6? Or a 5 pot?
NA V6 wouldn’t produce enough power or torque low enough for decent offroading (specifically torque). A 5 pot is probably too expensive and impractical for something like this
10 speed auto 😂😂
It’ll be changing gears and staying low revved that engine will soon clog up
👎🏼
I’m all for diesel power but why so many gears ??
Fuel economy. Most modern SUVs have a crazy amount of cogs, so not sure why it’s surprising
