The New McLaren 675LT Is A 666bhp Modern Interpretation Of The Classic F1 GTR Longtail
We’re not normally the type to get caught up in teasers, but this one is particularly intriguing - and now it comes with a hint of exhaust audio. Last week McLaren announced that it would be revealing the new 675LT, reviving the ‘Longtail’ name not worn by a car from Woking since the F1 GTR in 1997.
The new car will sit alongside the 650S that it is based on in the new Sports Series range, and will be a more lightweight, track-focused car. The name gives away the finer details; 675 refers to the car’s output of 675PS, or 666bhp in real money; LT refers to Longtail, an active airbrake that contributes to a 40 per cent increase in overall downforce compared to the 650S.
Power comes from a heavily-revised version of the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 found in McLaren’s other cars. It gets lightweight components and new turbos here. A redesigned crossover exhaust system, the sound of which has been teased in the video above, has been formed from titanium.
The 675LT will be available as a coupe only, and will be fully revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show on 3 March.
