There’s a new sports car in the works, and its name is McLaren Sports Series. Yep, the baby Macca has been given a proper moniker, and frankly it’s a bit rubbish.

The car has been known by its internal codename ‘P13’ up until now, and will slot into McLaren’s model range beneath the 650S. That means it’ll be taking on high-end 911s; with the new AWD F-Type proving Jag is serious about its commitment to the segment, the Germans have got to be worried about this British sports car invasion.

The Sports Series is likely to have a 500bhp version of the 3.8-litre V8 found in the 650S and P1, with a revised version of the carbonfibre monocoque to provide more space and practicality in the cabin.

McLaren has revealed the name at the launch of ‘Black Swan,’ its new hype-building campaign. The car will finally break cover in the second quarter of 2015.
