New Need For Speed Payback Trailer Showcases Immense Customisation And Derelicts
The latest Need For Speed instalment is bringing even more depth, detail and options to the customisation side of the franchise, while also giving players the chance to rebuild a car from the ground up.
A new trailer from publisher EA and developer Ghost Games has showcased the almost-overwhelming array of customisation options that gamers can try out when NFS Payback hits virtual and real-life shelves on the 10 November for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Players will be able to put their own stamp on their cars, while also altering the performance like never before – with five car classes to delve into (race, drift, off-road, drag and runner). Of course, customisation has long been a part of NFS, but not in this kind of depth.
Derelicts are cars that you can find during the single player campaign. You don’t have to buy them, win them or anything like that. It’s a full-on hunt for these classic, abandoned machines, ready to be brought back to life. Winning, buying and finding car parts allows players to bring it back to stock condition.
Then, having done that, gamers will be able turn it into a bonkers super-build – a far cry from the battered, run-down car that was found in the open-world map. Five derelicts are in the game, associate art director Bryn Alban told us, and these include the 1965 Chevrolet Stepside Pickup and the 1963 VW Beetle.
EA also confirmed that those who pre-order the game will get the Platinum Car Pack, which gets them five uniquely-customised and tuned cars:
- Nissan 350Z 2008
- Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967
- Dodge Charger R/T 1969
- Ford F-150 Raptor 2016
- Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016
- (Plus exclusive Platinum Blue Underglow & Tire Smoke Vanity Items)
Check out the new customisation trailer above and let us know if you are looking forward to NFS Payback or not in the comments.

I hope it’ll have real customization with all cars, unlike the exotics in NFS 2015, where you couldn’t change ANYTHING!
Thank you!
Bring back customization like it was in Underground 2!
Hey, they couldn’t have done a thing about supercar customization. Lamborghini and Ferrari are strict as f’ck about customizing their cars, even in games.
I don’t see how you intend to modify a F40 without ruining it, and most importantly, without attracting the wrath of Ferrari’s executives.
but yo have you seen the f-type? it’s awesome
Underglow=instantly called a ricer
There are reasons for that. Underglow serves no purpose at all and it’s almost exclusively used by ricers, so…
Where have I seen this all before? Hmm…
TBH if it’s good, why not? Better than having everything located at the garage and it is just a matter of slapping elite parts everywhere and you’re done.
no i’m totally not biased towards tc, not at all /s
Lets be honest, this new mechanics are a lot like crew but i like crew so no problem on my end
annoying part is that you still have to do millions of races to get perf parts and you dont even know what you will get… Why you cant simply buy like in the old games or any other racing game
also was there 3 other currencies?? microtransactions maybe???
You can buy them at parts shops (says in the site)
NFS 2015: we want to make NFS great again!
NFS Payback: actually , Forza did it pretty well
Actually Forza is amazing in the 1st 3 weeks, but after that the game just gets more and more stale
Will it use the same dog s**t physics engine as NFS 2015?!
Its EA, it’ll somehow be worse.
No one knows, yet.
Also, if you ask me, NFS 2015’s physics were fine. Not perfect, buy fine.
I like NFS Shift’s customisations best
In terms of fine tuning, pretty much yes. In terms of performance, probably (at least in S2U, upgrades sounds less abstract than random parts). In terms of visual customization absolutely nope.
Depends on what kind of tuning you want, I guess. But I’ll give you that, Works conversions were elite, especially the Z06.
Though the S2U Z06 works-converted with a C6R engine swap was a nightmare in most cases.
Yee
Can’t wait to play it! Looks amazing
Gassers… soooo cool.
