The New Toyota GT86 Cb Is A Japan-Only Luxury Makeover Edition

The GT86 has been around for a few years now, and although there are no signs of it getting a bump in power any time soon, Toyota clearly feels there’s life in the sports car yet. Rather than pandering to the performance car guys - that would require Subaru pulling its finger out and fettling the Boxer engine - it has decided to go after the fashionistas.

This Japan-only model is named Cb, which stands for ‘Cool beauty’. It’s a mostly aesthetic change, but the result is an awesomely retro-inspired sports car. The whole front end has been significantly reworked with a new bumper and grille, as well as old-school oval headlights that contribute to curvy styling reminiscent of the classic Toyota 2000GT.
Other differences include a deleted rear spoiler and two-tone brown and beige paint. Aside from that spoiler, the rear hasn’t been changed, with the standard car’s angular styling remaining and looking at odds with the new curvy front.

The interior hasn’t escaped a poshing up, either. The steering wheel has been lavished with luxurious leather, the dials have been replaced with a more sophisticated analogue design, and the dash has been covered in ebony woodgrain panels. Seriously.
The Toyota GT86 Cb goes on sale in Japan on April 23, costing ¥4.18 million (a snip under £23,000).
