The Next-Gen Porsche 911 Could Have Two Hybrid Versions
The incoming ‘992’-generation Porsche 911 will have a hybrid option. You know that; we know that; the whole motoring world knows that. But what you probably didn’t know is that there could be two plug-in hybrid versions in the range, according to a new report from Auto Express.
One will be a hypercar-baiting monster which could well be the range-topping version of the 911. The Panamera range is currently topped by the Turbo S E-Hybrid, so that’s certainly something we can see happen.
According to an insider source, the second hybrid 992 will be pitched as a Carrera alternative. A naturally-aspirated flat-six with a hybrid boost for the low end is a tantalising prospect, but before you get too excited, we’d say that a new version of the standard Carrera’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine with supplementary electric assistance seems more likely.
One of the biggest issues for Porsche to combat is weight. By AE’s reckoning, the hybrid gubbins could add as much as 250kg, placing the 911 firmly in ‘fatty’ territory. The engineers are thought to be using lessons learned in the development of the 918 Spyder and Cayenne E-Hybrid to make sure the car is as agile as a 911 should be.
Expect the next 911 to be revealed late 2018 or early 2019.

Awesome! Who doesn’t want some extra weight in a sportscar? Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid is 300 kg heavier than Panamera Turbo. But more is better isn’t it?
You could also go for a non hybrid 992, if you want less weight. I think you have now a better choice if you want just a GT (Turbo) or the most powerfull GT (Turbo S E Hybrid) or the hardcore variant GT2/3..
It’s not like the hybrid versions would replace the non-hybrid versions, it’s another model ontop to the already existing ones. If you don’t like them, you can always just ignore the fact that they exist and merrily browse the Porsche catalogue like before.
Most 911 drivers don’t really care about that. They just want a luxurious car with good power. The sort who chase every gram will buy a GT3.

I don’t mind it at all
1) It’s just an option - if you desperately hate hybrids, rest assured that there’ll be 500 ICE-only variants too
2) This gives some people who have to have a hybrid (taxation/city centre regulations/high fuel prices/or simply desire to reduce personal carbon footbprint) a better, more interesting alternative
3) This may allow Porsche to reduce average CO2 emissions and satisfy the regulators, and thus keep producing NA flat-sixes for the GT3 for longer
4) We don’t yet know how the handling etc will be affected but if they manage to pull it off it might be even better to drive (instant torque, etc)

Honestly I’d be happy if Porsche Keeps the Inline 6 and a Manual Gearbox with the Hybrid power train
I wouldn’t be happy if Porsche used an inline 6 though… although I’m sure many BMW fans would be 😂
I’m sure that they’ll find a way to reduce the weight in the hybrid to make it weigh as much as the current turbo S or perhaps lighter. Maybe they’ll find some extreme CF that’ll do the trick. One things for sure though is that it’s going to be hella fast

Calm down - it’s only an option. There will be gazillions of non-hybrid 911s available.
I would expect the 992 to be revealed around Frankfurt this year in some shape or form, since Porsche is already out testing the Turbo models.
