The Next Generation Camaro Will Be Unveiled On 16 May And Everyone's Invited

There’s a new Chevrolet Camaro on the horizon, and now we know exactly where and when it will be revealed. Chevy is throwing a launch party in Detroit on 16 May, and everyone’s invited.

The new car has been teased in the video above, which celebrates the sale of the 500,000th fifth-generation Camaro. The camouflaged new car can be seen for a few seconds at the end of the video, and appears to be quite similar to the outgoing version, aside from a narrower upper grille.

To keep Camaro fans ticking over, Chevrolet has unveiled the new Camaro logo, which is an updated interpretation of the three-stripe logo that’s been around, on and off, since the 70s. The ‘Murica red, white, and blue remains, however the shield shape has been extended to be wider. The bow tie has been ditched in favour of ‘Camaro’ in bold lettering above the stripes.

The launch event takes place at the Belle Isle Park circuit in Detroit on May 16, and all Camaro owners and fans can apply for a place at the free event. Priority will be given to those who can bring their Camaro along to display, and lucky attendees will not only be there when the wraps are pulled off the sixth-generation car, they’ll also get passenger rides around the track.

The styling might be similar, but platform-wise the new Camaro is set for a big change. It’s currently on GM’s Zeta platform, but will be moving to the Alpha platform shared by the Cadillac ATS and CTS. On the engine front you can expect another combination of old and new, with the current 3.6-litre V6 and 6.2-litre V8 carried over, and potentially a new 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four from the ATS allowing it to take on the EcoBoost Mustang.
