We all know texting while driving is dangerous, but it's incredible just how many people still do it. Brian Singer, a graphic designer, was shocked to see so many people texting behind the wheel after he recently started commuting along the 101 Freeway in San Francisco. He decided to do something about it.

On his way into work each morning, Singer snaps photos of people using their phone behind the wheel and posts them to his blog TWIT (Texting While In Traffic) Spotting. On top of that, Singer is placing billboards across the city with images of phone users displayed.

Speaking to Gizmodo, Singer said "my hope is that it will freak some people out and make them think twice before picking up the phone while driving", and that he hopes that if more people start taking photos it'll help "have a dramatic affect on people's behaviour."

Plastering people's faces up on a billboard raises obvious privacy questions, however Singer is confident he's not breaking any laws: "...all I'm really doing is taking photos in a public place."

It's a great campaign. According to the site (see inforgraphic above), people spend an average of 4.6 seconds looking away from the road while texting, which is an absolutely terrifying statistic. Anything that makes people realise the dangers of their actions should be applauded.
