Nico Rosberg Will Be With Mercedes For Another Two F1 Seasons

Mercedes and Nico Rosberg have confirmed the signing of a new two-year deal until the end of the 2018 Formula 1 season. Rosberg’s F1 future has been secured and he will race alongside team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the Silver Arrows for the next two seasons, which is when both drivers’ contracts will run out.

It’s hardly a surprising move from Mercedes but it does fill another top seat on the 2017 grid and takes away the chances of its junior drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Ocon.

The new deal was revealed in a rather unique way, with a contract signing video being posted on both Rosberg and Mercedes’ social media accounts. A close-up snap of the piece of paper being scribbled on later revealed it is a two-year deal for 2017 and 2018.

Rosberg has been with Mercedes since the German manufacturer returned to F1 as a team in 2010, having switched over from Williams.

They haven't laughed together since...
They haven't laughed together since...

All of his 19 wins have been with the Brackley-based team and he is currently leading the 2016 drivers’ championship, as he goes for his first title in F1 (on his third attempt).

It means we have another two years of inter-team rivalry, on-track clashes (it’s inevitable another one will happen) and possibly more title battles - if Mercedes holds onto its advantage with the new 2017 rules - between Rosberg and Hamilton.

What do you make of the news? Who would have you liked to see at Mercedes if Rosberg hadn’t been retained? Let us know in the comments.

Would it be a bigger deal for Hamilton to get his 4th title or for Rosberg to defeat a 3x world champion in the same car?

Think of it like this, I heard in an interview, during the 1976 season niki lauda hated hunt, he did not want Hunt to win the championship, (obviusly then, lauda didn’t know that he would become 3 times world champion, he was by then 1 time world champion) but when the interviewer asked Niki lauda if he had been happier being 4 time world champion and Hunt not and he said, no, not at all and that hunt fully deserved the title..

For Rosberg to beat Lewis because Lewis has a dominant car so he really only has 1 competitor

He knows the only way he can do it is being on the same team as Lewis, all he needs to do is gets infront of Hamilton with points half way through the season and Mercedes will give him the championship and let Lewis do all the blocking…but Lewis is to cocky for that, he’d fight til the end lol

The problem with your plan is that Rosberg is really not a very good driver, if everyone had the same cars i wounder if he’d even be in the top half, therefore he cant run away from hamilton.
