Nissan Has Revealed A Cop Car You Really Do Want To See In Your Mirrors

The Middle East excluded, police cars always seem to sacrifice desirability for practicality, but Nissan's latest show car has other ideas

Nissan has created a stunning one-off police-inspired GT-R show car for the imminent New York international motor show.

Obviously, it’s nicknamed Copzilla. It’s an agonizing look at what might have been if the NYPD had picked R35 GT-Rs instead of their traditional police interceptors from Ford. Check out the video here.

Dotted with police lights, bull bars, slammed coilover suspension and stretched tyres over what look like solid wheels, the ‘Skyline Metro Police Department’ car looks ready to beat you into the ground if you don’t behave. It also has a huge rear wing for, y’know, chasing the bad guys around the Circuit of the Americas or whatever.

Speaking of chasing, this would be pretty hard to get away from. Beneath the uniform it’s a 2017 GT-R with 562bhp and 469lb ft, and with a trained driver at the wheel you’d have to be insane to try to run. It’s theoretically even quicker than the older GT-R used by the Dubai police as part of its supercar fleet.

Nissan did, at one point, build a Japanese police car based on the R34 Skyline GT-R, but they’re famously rare, as the incredibly happy guy in this video will tell you.

No doubt the New York show will bring with it a bit more official information about why Nissan has actually built this and whether they might secretly be trying to persuade at least one major US police force to order a fleet of them. Go on, America, you know you want to.

I’ll lose it when I slowly drive off a curb, then go over a speedbump. And what’s with the wang?
