Now's The Time To Get Damn Excited About Forza Motorsport 6
Microsoft knows the racing genre competition is fierce, but a few recent interviews suggests that it’s got everything under control. The recent interviews were with Xbox social marketing manager Graeme Boyd via Rectify Gaming Podcast and Microsoft Studios marketing executive Aaron Greenberg via The Inner Circle Podcast.
Since the Detroit motor show announcement that the Ford GT would be the cover star for the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6 game, there have only been hints and speculation surrounding what is to come next. Without revealing any in-game features, Boyd and Greenberg have given us some insight into the game’s development. Both men point to the importance of focusing on the online and social aspects of the game, as those areas are the hottest trending right now.
Greenberg confirmed that Forza Motorsport 6 will be released at the end of the year with other holiday season games in what he thinks may be the biggest season for game releases in Xbox history. The team is well aware of the stiff competition it faces from PC racing games and the PS4 exclusive DriveClub. For this reason, the Forza series will remain exclusive to Xbox so that more focus can be placed on improving the game play and social features, rather than expanding to another console.
To cross over into another console or even release on the PC requires more work that is better focused elsewhere, Greenberg says. Greenberg went on to promise that there will be several other titles announced through the summer for Xbox One, and that the mission continues to be improving the Xbox One experience all around to keep gamers from bouncing back and forth between consoles.
Boyd made quite a bold claim in his interview. When asked about Forza Motorsport 6, he replied, “From what I’ve seen, no one’s going to be disappointed by that game.” That’s a pretty big statement to live up to, but it seems like the developers at Turn 10 Studios agree. Last month, the creative director Dan Greenawalt said the game is, “…our most technically advanced racing simulation to date, offering a fun and realistic automotive experience for both car lovers and gamers.” We will have to wait until June for its official unveiling at the E3 convention to judge just how well they did.
The game’s release later this year comes in time for the tenth anniversary of the Forza series. It is the first time a game has simultaneously released with a production car. Check out the videos above to see how Ford’s partnership with Xbox and Turn 10 Studios has really benefited everyone. Besides the Ford GT, the only other cars confirmed so far are the GT350 Mustang and the F-150 Raptor. Driving will be track events only in this newest Forza release; sorry to the free roaming fans of Horizon 2!
