Now's Your Chance To Buy A RWD-Converted WRX Used In Baby Driver

If you watched the stupendous Baby Driver and wondered how they managed to get a Subaru WRX to oversteer quite so much, you can ponder no more: what you’re looking at here is the answer.

It’s one of several Subarus used during filming, and while it might look like an ordinary ‘Hawk Eye’ WRX from the outside, it sends its power exclusively to the rear wheels. Yep, it’s the rear-wheel drive-converted stunt car you might have read about, and it’s up for grabs on eBay.

As well as the rear-wheel drive conversion, it’s had an upgraded rear differential, and been fitted with a turbocharger from a 2004 WRX STI. According to the seller it has “some dings and scratches from the filming of the movie,” but is described to be in “good” condition overall. It was originally grey, before being repainted red for obvious continuity reasons.

Should you win the auction, you’ll be in good company: after production wrapped, Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort was allowed to keep another one of the WRXs used during filming. The only trouble is, it’s not going to be cheap to bag this one: at time of writing, the auction is at $27,600 (£21,400) with four days to go (update: the auction has since finished, with an end price of $69,100).

Alternatively, the seller does also have a Dodge Charger police car used in the film that’s currently at $3000 with no bids, although it is sporting some particularly severe crash damage…

There’s a bit where they’re flooring it and countersteering after an extremely sharp turn where if it was 4WD, they definitely wouldn’t have gotten away with it.
