Ogle The First Working Aston Martin Valhalla Hypercar

It wasn’t too long ago that Aston Martin was peddling a line-up of ancient - admittedly beautiful - GT cars. How times have changed - Gaydon now has a whole range of shiny new cars, is plotting a mid-engined supercar, and is working on not one but two hypercars.

It’s been hugely exciting to see the 11,100rpm-capable Valkyrie take shape from those initial sketches to the Validation Prototype 1 - shown off at the British Grand Prix recently - and now it’s the turn of the Valhalla to edge closer to reality.

So far, we’ve only seen the car as a full-size design model. But the Valhalla you see here actually works - it’s what Aston is referring to as a ‘dynamic concept’. Gaydon has even gone as far as filming it, just so you know for sure the thing moves under its own steam.

The Valhalla - which was initially codenamed the AM RB-003 - will be made in much greater numbers than the Valkyrie, with 500 coupes planned. Just 150 Valkyries will be built, although the Valhalla will be sharing a significant amount of parts and knowhow with its big brother, as Red Bull Advanced Technologies is taking care of the engineering behind both vehicles.

One thing that won’t be shared between the two is the engine. Sorry - there’ll be no N/A V12 heroics for the Valhalla. But its powerplant is still very interesting, with Aston Martin developing an all-new twin-turbo V6 for the hypercar, supplemented by hybrid tech. The same unit will power the incoming Vanquish supercar, minus the electrical gubbins.

Production of the Valhalla will begin in 2022. For now, it’s be possible to see the original Geneva show model at Monterey Car Week’s The Quail event in California. The final product will say hello to the world in 2021.
