The One Important Thing That Microsoft Failed To Tell Us About Forza Horizon 2

For the past year, the excitement has been growing for the release of Forza Horizon 2. Potential buyers were told that they would be able to compete against others in an open-world racing environment and receive monthly car packs. In an announcement made on Tuesday (alongside the release of the first car pack) Forza community manager Brian Ekberg told players the monthly car packs would only be available for the Xbox One version.

To make matters worse, he also broke the news that for those playing the new game on Xbox 360, their in-game achievements will not earn them Forza Rewards credits that can be exchanged for new cars.

“We are currently planning to release DLC only for the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2.…Xbox 360 players will not receive Forza Rewards credits or cars. In addition, progress in the 360 version of Forza Horizon 2 does not count towards your Forza Rewards Tier Level score.”

On 11th September 2014, the Xbox team stated via its news site that Forza 2 players would be able to spend their Forza Rewards credits to start the game with ‘several exciting cars.’ The rewards system has been used in Xbox 360 games before (Forza Motorsports 2 through to Forza Motorsports 5), and the Xbox team never clearly stated that Forza Horizon 2 will not offer the same opportunity for Xbox 360 players.

“Players start earning Forza Rewards practically the moment they start playing a Forza game….Once you have logged in to the game, you will receive a special message in Forza Horizon 2 and be able to add these awesome cars to your Forza Horizon 2 garage.”

Here is the first of many car packs you’ll miss out on:

While a few gamers claim they knew this day was coming, most are shocked at this news. They feel as though Microsoft uses moves like this to force gamers into purchasing the next generation console. In any case, it was never made clear to consumers that car packs and Forza Rewards would not be available for Xbox 360 players.

Deceit or an honest miscommunication? We’ll let you decide…
