This One-Of-A-Kind Porsche Carrera GT Wears A $23k Paint Job

With a unique orange finish and only 265 miles on the clock, this soon-to-be-auctioned Carrera GT is one of the most alluring examples we've ever seen

Most petrolheads would probably part with a kidney in return for a mere drive in a Porsche Carrera GT, let alone the chance to own one. It’s old enough to be from a time when lots of manufacturers were still stuffing big, many-cylindered N/A engines in supercars, but not so far in the past that the chassis is past it.

Its 8400rpm capable 5.7-litre V10 - which can be traced back to an aborted F1 project between Porsche and Footwork - is hooked up to a manual gearbox, and powers a rear-drive hero that doesn’t possess a whole lot in electronic aids. It’s a proper supercar for the drivers, and as a consequence, any example that comes up for sale risks much dribbling.

What we have here, though, is an especially lovely version of this ultimate driver’s supercar. It’s a 2005 GT, making it one of the last built for the US market. And as you might have noticed, it’s finished in a colour you wouldn’t expect to see splashed over one of these cars.

The ‘Arancio Boreallis’ paint-to-sample finish cost the original owner $23,500. In total, the car was fitted with $36,960 of exclusive options, including black-painted brake calipers for a wallet-busting $8460.

In the cabin, you’ll find dark grey leather (there’s a matching leather set too), plus optional carbonfibre trim cladding the steering wheel, handbrake and the gear knob. Distressingly, this Carrera GT has covered only 265 miles since leaving the factory.

If you have a good few hundred thousand dollars kicking around and would like to right this injustice, we suggest you get yourself down to RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale taking place from 15 - 17 August. It’ll be going under the hammer, but at present, there’s no estimate.

It’s recently undergone a $25,000 service at Niello Porsche in California, so is primed and ready to be enjoyed. Or stored for more years without moving an inch. Here’s hoping for the former…

If I was rich enough to buy one, I’d make sure it had a wooden gear knob.

Arancio borealis? At this time of year? Localized entirely within the RM Sotheby’s auction?

265 miles? I’d cover that in a day if I ever got my hands on this baby. The V10 from the Carrera GT is one of my favourite engine sounds on a road car. It’s eargasmic.

Seriously? No one cares that it costs 8k to paint brake calipers BLACK? A color that is standard for calipers on almost every car
