A massive, 15-mile long race track looks set to be built outside of Las Vegas as an expansion of the Spring Mountain Motor Resort circuit.

Back in 2004, entrepreneur John Morris purchased a little racetrack in the town of Pahrump, which is located just outside the bright lights of Las Vegas. Since then, it’s been transformed into an exclusive luxury resort for the wealthy, who want to test their driving skills and generally hoon about.

The track is home to some US manufacturers, who use it for testing and driving schools, and has a range of different layouts - the longest of which is 6.2 miles. This already makes it the longest circuit in America, which is a pretty big deal. But that isn’t enough.

Bloomberg Businessweek reports Morris has plans to extend the track to a massive 15-mile layout, which’d make it longer than the Nordschleife. It’s not quite the longest race track in the world – the VLN’s combined Nurburgring layout (16.1 miles) and Isle of Man TT course (37.7 miles) are still a fair way ahead.

But nevertheless, it’d be one of the longest circuits out there, and would turn the track into an even bigger playground for petrolheads. It already has places to stay, a pool, indoor shooting range, jetpack flights at the lake and other activities, but Morris wants to add a dirt circuit, a hotel, car wash restaurants.

Apparently, he’s also aiming to create a proper city with houses, coffee shops and other amenities too. Which sounds like a pretty cool place for a car-loving person to live.

The ‘city’ element might be a stretch too far, but the track extension sounds good to us and would be a pretty cool addition to the US motorsport scene.
