This Porsche 962 Has One Of The Greatest Turbo Wastegate Noises Ever
Do you like the STUTUTU of a ridiculously massive turbocharger? Let your ears melt with delight at the sound of this on-board Laguna Seca footage
After on-board footage surfaced from a Porsche 908 competing at Laguna Seca last week, more wondrous footage has surfaced in the shape of this visor-cam video from the cockpit of a Porsche 962 endurance racer.
The heavily-turbocharged flat-six racer was once driven by British driver Derek Bell and could be tuned to upwards of 600bhp, bringing with it one of the greatest turbocharged orchestras of all time.

Damn Michael, you work for a car enthusiast blog and don’t know the difference between a wastegate and a blown off valve…
Sounds like my old Renault 5GT Turbo
RIP in pieces @ 2:40
THIS THIS IS A F**CKING JET
This is compressor surge/flutter. A wastegate navigates exhaust gasses from the exhaust manifold into the downpipe (or straight to atmosphere, called screamer pipe) to regulate boost. When max boost is achieved the wastegate opens and lets exhaust pass around the turbo and regulates how much exhaust gets into the turbine housing. You will not hear a wastegate when it routes back into the exhaust, when it vents to atmosphere you will hear the car get louder when it opens as in: bwaaaaaAAAAAAAHH. A blowoff valve will make the well known PSHHHHH sound, this car doesn’t have one (very normal on racecars) and so you get the SUTUTUTUTU surge/flutter. Educate yourselves CT.
TIL a little bit about turbos and turbo noises. Thanks Marius, and other knowledgeable CTzens!
Feckin ‘ell!
R.I.P. headphone users. (Atleast it was a pleasant death)
the Subaru with the duck call was better, IMO
So a Toyota racer overtook the Porsche racecar and then broke down and DNF? This reminds me of something…
I had to click off because of how sexually excited I was getting
