Porsche Blasts Aussie Politicians Over New Outback Speed Limit
Porsche has hit out at the new Australian government as the nation prepares to reintroduce speed limits to remote Northern Territory roads for ‘safety reasons’ – despite evidence that it would actually make things worse.
The German sports car maker has accused the Aussie rulemakers of creating a nanny state. Australia’s ABC News quotes Porsche spokesman Paul Ellis as saying: “It seems the Northern Territory government is doing its best to deter international car companies from coming to Australia to spend money and invest in the local economy.”
He went on to add: “Speed does not kill; bad driving kills [do]. It’s just a shame we’ve taken a nanny state approach.”
Speed limits in the vast area were originally canned in 2014, after the government collated research showing that their introduction in 2007 had caused deaths to rise.
But the newly-installed Labour administration, which won a landslide victory just weeks ago, has pledged to reintroduce an 81mph (130kmh) limit along the 200-mile stretch of road. Medical experts have called for the move, saying that higher speeds lead to greater risk of serious injuries and deaths. Is it just us, or have they not looked at those government figures from 2014?
TV crews like those working with Top Gear and The Grand Tour can still apply to derestrict a section for filming purposes, said a spokesman.
Porsche actually used the area to set a top-speed run in a 918 Spyder. Check out the footage below.

As an American, I’d like to say that we still have unrestricted deserts and we can have big guns and knives and do whatever we want ‘Murica.
This is of course ignoring the fact that 99.9% of the population has no interest in speed and we can’t stop stabbing and shooting each other.
We do have surprisingly restrictive speed limits, but when was the last time you knew anyone who followed them
if hilary dosent win….
I’m not sure if the top photo is real life or FH3
Lol that 918 is my wallpaper
Now watch as the researchers claim that driving a Porsche “increases the possibility of injury” and thus, all Porsche’s must be banned.
So 130 Km/h over a 200 mile (around 320 km) straight? That sounds like a law that forces you to be bored rather than one that ensures your safety
What is this? Need For Speed: Traffic Roads?
Welcone to Australia where we were laid back. Now you gotta fill 15 helth and safety forms before being a passenger in a car….
Video from 2015.

What this fails to mention is the notion that the majority of people who drive in the NT have often been slamming diamond whites until they can see quadruple.
