Aside from the Predator-mouthed new Toyota Yaris, facelifts tend to be rather minor these days. However, Porsche is taking the ‘facelift, what facelift?’ approach to the extreme with this, the updated Porsche Cayenne. As you can see from the comparison image above, not a whole lot is different on the outside (the new car is on the left, in case you were wondering).

Happily, what’s under the skin has been subjected to more rigorous changes. For starters, the Hybrid is now called the ‘E-Hybrid,’ which kicks out a combined 410bhp and 434lb ft of torque, up 35bhp and 7lb ft compared to the outgoing version. It’ll do 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and top out at 151mph, despite being capable of a massive 84mpg. It can run on electric-only mode for up to 22 miles.

The Cayenne S, meanwhile, has lost its V8 in favour of a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V6, but don’t fret; with 414bhp and 405lb ft on tap it’s 20bhp and 37lb ft more pokey than the old one. 0-62mph takes just 5.4 seconds, while the top speed is 161mph. The Cayenne Turbo’s beefy 4.8-litre V8 has been given a fettle, with an additional 20bhp and 37lb ft bringing the total to a colossal 512bhp and 553lb ft.

On the oil-burning side of the range, the bog standard Cayenne Diesel has received a modest 16bhp and 12lb ft to bring the total to 258bhp and 427lb ft, while the poor old S Diesel has to make do with a paltry 3bhp boost and no extra torque.

Prices range from £49,902 for the Diesel to £93,763 for the Turbo, and the car is on sale now.
