The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Will Make You Want To Be A Rich Gentleman Racing Driver
Like the idea of the Cayman GT4? Dabble in motorsport? Here’s the car for you. Based on Porsche’s ultimate version of the mid-engined Cayman, this new racing edition might just make you wish you’re a gentleman racer. And also rather rich.
It has the same mid-mounted, 380bhp flat-six as the road-going GT4, although this time it’s hooked up to a six-speed ‘PDK’ dual-clutch gearbox rather than a manual (well, this is a racing car). At the rear there’s a race-spec locking differential, while the front axle is pinched straight from the 911 GT3 Cup car.
The braking system is comprised of four 380mm steel discs with six-piston callipers at the front and four-piston at the rear, while the ABS system has 12 levels of adjustment. It still has Electronic Stability Control, although it’s been tweaked to allow for slick tyres.
In the stripped-out cabin, you’ll find a roll cage, a single racing seat and a six-point harness. The whole car tips the scales at 1300kg.
So, once you’ve shelled out €111,000 (plus VAT) for this beast, where can you race? Porsche will be homologating the Clubsport for a variety of series in 2016 including the VLN Long Distance Championship Nurburgring, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA, the SRO GT4 series, Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada, a bunch of club races held by the Porsche Club of America, and various other clubman events.
