Porsche Dealer Apparently Confirms Incoming Cayman GT4 RS 4.0

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Porsche Centre Brisbane in Australia invited deposits for a limited-edition GT4 RS with a 4.0-litre engine. Has this let the Geneva Motor Show cat out of the bag?

Porsche is not a company known for being fond of ‘accidental’ product leaks, but its dealer in Brisbane, Australia, has apparently done just that. Or has it?

Over the weekend the dealer posted an Instagram photo of the regular GT4 that you see in our pictures here, along with the words:

“Attention GT4 aficionados

“Due to high demand, a GT4 RS is on its way – with more power and a 4.0L flat-six engine, this limited model will turn heads.”

Obviously this did rather catch the car world’s attention, and the fact that the post has now been deleted suggests that someone at that end of things either realised their mistake on their own or picked up the phone to find someone from Stuttgart shouting very loud German profanities.

This is also the sort of time, a month or so before the Geneva show, that dealers might start being informed about what new product was coming, to give them time to gen-up on the new model before customers start calling.

On the other hand, with the Cayman having moved to downsized, turbocharged engines that have come in for a lot of abuse, would Porsche really issue a reminder of just how awesome the Cayman always was with a flat-six? Such a move could potentially be counter-productive for its common-or-garden Cayman models.

Either way, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for more on this, but we suspect that with Stuttgart watching like a hawk there will be no more to tell you until Geneva.

I think now that everybody knows about these “accidents” they should just get back to officially announce new models.

I genuinely think I would prefer a GT4-RS over a GT3-RS. I can live without owning a “911” for the mid engined flat-6 layout. As a Boxster owner now, this WILL be epic, but V expensive

The Porsche Cayman GT4 is my in my top three favorite cars (others are both Porsches, 918 and 911 R.) This would be so awesome to get not just a hot Cayman but the RS Cayman. The GT4 was the car everybody wanted but thought Porsche would never make it, why? Because it would prove that rear-engine cars are not as good as mid-engine cars. It is so cool to see Porsche putting more in to the Cayman and making it great. Thank you Porsche!
