Porsche Has Just Teased The New, Probably Mid-Engine 911 RSR
The Porsche 911 has remained stubbornly rear-engined ever since its inception, but that could be about to change. Well, it could be about to for one particular version: the RSR race car.
Porsche is rumoured to have done the unthinkable with the latest RSR - teased in the sketch above - shifting the engine in front of the rear wheels for the first time in any 911, road or track. From what you can see going on in the testing footage below, it certainly looks like some substantial mid-engine related changes have been going on.
Furthermore, Porsche has called the incoming RSR replacement “the most spectacular” version of the sports car ever seen. Quite a claim.
We’ll find out for sure where the RSR’s engine sits when the car is revealed at the LA Auto Show on Thursday.
Anyone else getting ahead of themselves and wondering if a production version might follow…?

They all look the same…
it doesn’t affect the looks it affects the weight distribution which affects the handling
Even with the engine placement, it’s still one hell of a looker! Sounds awesome too.
Mid engine? - not 911 at all change the number or the name
NO NO NO NO NO NO NOO!
They all look the same!
It certainly looks like it’s front engined, there are huge vents on the front and the rear looks empty, btw that’s certainly the sound of a flat 6 but it also sounds like it’s revving to the moon!
Mid-engined, not front engined
I think that the 2001 nine-eleven was a bit more spectacular
Check out my RSR RC.
Dat exhaust note tho…
