Porsche Might Build A Boxster Spyder GT4 Because The World Went Mad For The Faster Cayman
The Boxster Spyder made its debut at the New York motor show earlier this month, and it already looks like Porsche wants to give it some extra beans in the form of a GT version. A ‘senior source’ told Autocar “We are looking at it right now. Much of the engineering has already been done for the Cayman, so we think this might be a good direction for us.”
What you’d essentially get is a Boxster Spyder with more power and all the aerodynamic addendum off the Cayman GT4. A quick look through our in-depth analysis of the fastest Cayman yet tells us to expect adjustable wings and diffusers, and bigger air intakes for cooling the beefed up engine.
On that front, the Spyder already has the same 3.8-litre flat-six as the Cayman, but it’s unclear what state of tune it’d run in the Spyder GT4. Other modifications you can expect would be the GT3-spec suspension (though the Cayman runs its own bespoke setup at the rear) and brakes. It’d also likely have a manual gearbox, with that being one of the biggest draws of the GT4.
What’s also exciting is that Porsche confirmed that the success of the GT4 makes an RS model more likely. With only a limited number of the Caymans on sale, many customers missed out, so Porsche will be keen to tap into their wallets.
