Getting a sense of deja vu? We don’t blame you. Porsche did indeed drop all of its diesel-engined vehicles from the range earlier this year, but this latest piece of news is slightly different.

The Stuttgart-based company never confirmed if it was ditching diesel for good, and there had been some expectation for the company’s new Cayenne to eventually adopt diesel engines. Now, though, Porsche has announced that it will “no longer offer diesel propulsion in future.”

In a press release, the company noted that just 12 per cent of its sales in 2017 were diesel-powered, and with a shift towards hybrid and fully-electric vehicles, oil-burners just aren’t on the agenda anymore. In fact, it’s planning on pumping €6 billion of investment into “e-mobility,” part of which involves the production of the Taycan, the first Porsche EV.

Speaking about Porsche’s diesel dumping, company CEO Oliver Blume said:

“Porsche is not demonising diesel. It is, and will remain, an important propulsion technology. We as a sports car manufacturer, however, for whom diesel has always played a secondary role, have come to the conclusion that we would like our future to be diesel-free. Naturally we will continue to look after our existing diesel customers with the professionalism they expect.”

Porsche didn’t make a diesel, it is an Audi engine with some Porsche software (engine management).

Diesel and Petrol are superior to electric. They will regret their choices in a few years. Surfing trends never made anyone stand out among the crowd.
