Porsche Reveals First Images Of Its New 919 Hybrid LMP1 Race Car
Here are the first images of the new, second-generation Porsche 919 Hybrid. The LMP1 beauty will contest the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans this year.
The design is based on the same concept as last year’s 919, which took Porsche to one victory and five further LMP1 podiums as the German manufacturer expanded its endurance racing programme.
It will continue to be powered by the innovative 2.0-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine, with an electric motor powering the front wheels and two energy recovery systems.
The pictures were taken at the car’s first roll-out before Christmas, which took place at Porsche’s Weissach test track. Development testing started on Sunday, with five days of running taking place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The FIA WEC season kicks off at Silverstone in April. Porsche will enter a third car at two rounds this year, with Nico Hulkenberg being the only driver so far to be confirmed to race the machine at Spa and Le Mans.
