Porsche's New Retro-Styled Carrera S Celebrates 50 Years Of 911 - And We Love It
Back in 1963 Porsche revealed what would become one of the most iconic sports cars ever. With its flat-six engine mounted out back, early 911s were certainly a handful, but perseverance by Porsche saw it lose all the drawbacks that come from a rear-mounted powerhouse.
50 years later, and Porsche has commemorated its icon with a limited run of 1963 special Carrera S models. Named the 50 Years Edition, it has the same 3.8-litre, 400bhp engine as the standard car, with a few upgrades such as a sports exhaust and a 44mm wider body (than standard) from the Carrera 4.
Porsche has also sprinkled a few aesthetic changes, such as '50' motifs, which are scattered across the car. But the most striking features are the 20-inch alloys that have been modelled on the Porsche-designed 'Fuchs' wheels fitted to the 911 in 1966. Inside are a few more retro touches intended to evoke memories of the 911s past, the 'Pepita' tartan seat fabric pattern included.
Prices start from £92,257 and deliveries begin in September. Or you could just, you know, buy a 60s Porsche...?
