This £250,000 Restomod Mustang Is To Ford What Singer 911s Are To Porsche
Part of the charm of a classic car is that they aren’t as easy to live with as something modern, but not everyone is on board with that. Singer Vehicle Design’s entire business model is based on people who want the analogue look and feel of a classic 911 with modern style updates, plus proper performance and reliability. That business model is exactly where this stunning ‘new’ Mustang comes in.
Sutton Bespoke, a division of London-based American car dealership Clive Sutton, has launched this incredible restomod called the GT500CS. Based on a 1967 Mustang in dire need of some work, the chassis was restored to perfection before being plated in brand new classic-style bodywork produced to 2018 standards and finished in Magnetic metallic paint – a current Ford colour.
There’s LED lighting, black powder-coating and black racing stripes. The overall effect is perfectly retro… without the hidden compromises.
The same goes under the skin, where the 515bhp-ish V8 uses racing pistons, a motorsport-spec camshaft and eight-port fuel injection. A modern five-speed manual gearbox handles the torque while a limited-slip differential controls the traction at the rear.
It sits on adjustable coilover suspension, uses power steering and throws out the anchor courtesy of modern disc brakes. Inside, it’s all high-grade black Nappa leather with dark grey stitching. Period-style dials sit in a carbonfibre house that extends to the centre console and its plate of buttons linked to traction control, Line Lock (because burnouts), and air conditioning. You get sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and a high-quality stereo.
At around 10 months’ build time, the GT500CS isn’t something to buy on a whim. Prices extend from a floor of around £190,000 to £300,000, depending on exact spec and how much work is involved. This show car cost about £250,000.
At the same time as building this first GT500CS, Sutton Bespoke has created a 3D configuration platform to let future customers visualise their spec choices and bespoke features in detail. We’d say this was just about perfect, so who wants to start a crowdfunding scheme?
The GT500CS joins other ‘modern’ Mustangs announced recently by Classic Recreations. These aren’t restomods, but completely new builds with modern parts.
Comments
These just don’t do it for me, it’s almost going so far as to lose the soul of the car when drivability and performance is the focus, with singer they do a great job of focusing on the personality the cars came with and simply updating them a bit.
I would not call Singer’s work just “simply updating them”, they do they same as this group will and tailor the 911’s to customer’s specification. This Mustang’s soul is performance and driveability, so they really do not seem to deviate from it, but elevate it’s nature.
Oh my god it’s beautiful
Thank you for not putting gaudy wheels on it
No one should ever get credit for giving a 67-68 Mustang an Elanor bodykit. It’s overdone, boring and just not inspiring whatsoever. Please move on.
Oooohh god………………. i think i wet myself……………..
Sold exclusively to vampires
250k for another Eleanor-looking Mustang? No way in hell I’m paying that much for that thing. I’m not paying 250k for a Mustang unless it’s a ‘65 GT350R or a ‘70 Boss 429
Show it a crowd. It’s gone.
