With the recent release of our Volvo V60 Polestar video review, we’re now more in love with hot Volvos than we ever have been. Which is why this C30 T5 is also right up our street. The first-generation C30 - available only as a three-door hatchback - was an attempt by Volvo to attract a younger buyer. Despite a relatively sporty look and cool touches like the 480-inspired glass tailgate, it’s still a reserved machine, but we appreciate the subtlety.

The T5 version packs a warbly 2.5-litre inline-five engine, the same brilliant unit that Volvo lent to Ford for the Mk2 Focus ST and RS. Early versions have 216bhp, which was later raised to 226bhp. That’ll get you from 0-62mph in a decent 6.7 seconds, and on to a 149mph top speed. It’s perhaps not sharp enough to be regarded as a proper hot hatch, but regardless, we think the C30 is a classy way to get around at a good pace.

This one could be worth a look. It’s done a reasonable 90,000 miles, has a full service history, lovely two-tone leather seats, and is up for just £5995. That’s a lot of hot Volvo for the money. Tempted?
