Racing Game 'Drive! Drive! Drive!' Will Hurt Your Brain
Drive! Drive! Drive! is a new racing game from Different Cloth, and it has us quite curious. That’s because it’s based around a concept we’ve never seen before. In this casual racer, players compete in up to three separate races simultaneously, which has us already thinking, ‘challenge accepted’. The goal is pretty basic: beat the other cars around the track. But reaching that goal is the hard part. You must switch between managing each of your cars’ positions on different tracks while plotting your next move.
The man behind the game is Gordon Midwood, self proclaimed “head of everything” at Different Cloth. He has done a great job at keeping the details of the game secret until more content is produced, but we couldn’t help but pry. So, what would possess Gordon to devise such an evil challenge? He tells Car Throttle:
The idea began via various inspirations for the game and its design including the Hot Wheels Mega Loop Mayhem Trackset and the classic Amiga game Stunt Car Racer, as well as the contents of my brain when suffering from insomnia!
Gordon admits the idea sounds a little confusing at first, but promises that the game becomes clear once you begin to play. The final version of the game will contain a lot more tracks than what we can see now, and a multiplayer mode will add to the challenge. As for details on the cars and tracks, that remains a surprise. The same goes for the core mechanic of the game. Gordon says:
Whilst the actual mechanic remains shrouded in secrecy, you can be assured it’s like nothing you’ve ever played before, and requires speed of thought and presence of mind as well as top-notch racing skills!
The game has a pretty experimental mechanic at its core, and if we can iron out all the kinks it looks set to breeze through your cranium with more alpine freshness than a collection of Swiss bedsheets.
Drive! Drive! Drive! is the first racing game from Different Cloth. Its previous games, like the wildly popular underwater papercraft Derrick the Deathfin, have been anything but normal. Not only does the gameplay of Drive! Drive! Drive! set it apart, but so does the artistic style. The simplified car forms and smooth background designs surrounding suspended tracks almost mock the player during the most intense racing moments. The eerie and motivating music by Zombi heightens the pressure of concentrating on the next move. This game is insane (in the best way), and we can’t wait to share more with you as it develops.
