Readers' Rides: Alex's Anarchic Chevy C1500
We're keeping things a little bit quirky with our festive Readers' Rides. Earlier in the week we brought you an imported Mustang, and last week we looked at this Aussie Ute.
Today it's the turn of Alex and his evil-lookin' matte-black Chevy C1500. Both his legs are artificial, but he doesn't let that stop him doing what he loves - when he's not working as a full-time mechanic he's working on his Chevy or drag racing. Over to Alex to tell us more...
I'm Alex, and I'm 19 years old living in Saskatchewan, Canada. I'm a mechanic at a local shop and I love my job, but during the summer months I like to go drag racing! Here's the cool part though; I'm a bilateral amputee, meaning both my legs are artificial.
I have built my own truck with the help of my two best friends and my boss who drag races semi-professionally. I love what I do and I don't let my legs slow me down.
My truck is known as 'RattBag' - though you'll probably recognise it as a 1989 Chevrolet C1500. It has a 350 C.I. Chevrolet small block that has been bored out .60 over. The factory cam has been replaced with a .480 lift towing cam to give the truck more torque and factory cylinder heads have been replaced with aluminium .202 valve cylinder heads. It has an Edelbrock high rise intake and Flowtech mid-length headers.
I like to spend the summer doing 1/8th mile and 1/4 mile drag racing. I do a little bit of travelling around with my racing team 'Anarchy Racing' that currently consists of me and two good friends. My original plan was to just drive the truck as a daily driver, and not do anything with it. That only lasted about two months before I started doing all the work!
It usually turns heads because it's extremely loud and is kinda ugly, but it's like that on purpose!
