Readers' Rides: Chris' Twin-Turbo Nissan 300ZX

Chris saved hard for his dream ride; this twin-turbocharged ZX proves the wait was well worth it!

Earlier in the week we featured Richard's highly modified Mustang; today we're taking Readers' Rides East. Chris has loved the 300ZX ever since he was a kid, when posters of Nissan's brutish sports car were plastered on his bedroom wall.

Having spent a few years in the military, he managed to save up enough cash to buy his perfect car and has put a lot of work into making this a proper street weapon. Here's Chris to explain:

When people think of 'dream cars', they don't usually think of a Nissan 300ZX. Yes, my dream car wasn't as far out of reach as, let's say, an Aventador or an Enzo, but saving up enough money to buy the perfect car took me almost 10 years.

I spent five years in the military, two of which were spent in Iraq (you'll struggle to find a 300ZX over there!). The next five years I spent saving and stashing away what I could. Finally, I had enough cash, and found the perfect car. A 1991 twin-turbo T-top; five-speed, naturally.

Convincing the previous owner I was worthy enough to buy his Z is a long story for another day. He refused to sell it to someone who wasn't an enthusiast, so persuading him took some time... and lots of begging.

Once I got it home I couldn't have asked for anything more, but that didn't stop me from modifying it. The car has 18-inch alloys, upgraded turbos, swapped exhaust and lowered suspension. Here's a quick overview of fitted parts:

B&B exhaust w/ dual 4.5" oval tips Greddy Profec-B II boost controller Turbonetics T25/28 hybrid turbos Forged internals Ported Throttle Bodies CZP 13 inch brake kit Koyo Aluminum radiator Eibach lowering springs S/T Sway Bars

It's a 20+ year old car that has destroyed off-the-lot racers - the guys who buy a brand new Mustang, and claim to be the Stig! Not to mention the fact that it happily walks away from plenty of proper gearheads - both in a straight line and around corners. Low, fat and mean, the basis for any great sports car.

It has been built to destroy egos, and to be daily driven with the T-tops out, cruising for miles. Everywhere I go, it turns heads. And with 15lbs of boost on tap it keeps me smiling from ear to ear!
