Readers' Rides: Cody's Lime Green 1972 Dodge Demon
When most of us turn 15, we're still thinking about remote controlled cars or girls. Not Cody, however. His one true passion has always been cars, which is why, on his 15th birthday, his dad bought him the ultimate present: a 1972 Dodge Demon.
Back then, the car looked nothing like it does now, however; six years have passed and gone is the gold paintwork and brown vinyl roof in favour of this stunning lime green exterior and black roof. Also changed are the plaid green interior and standard rims.
As most of us will agree, once you start modifying your ride, it's a tough cycle to break out of. Cody was no different. While the car looked the part, the 3.7-litre slant-six engine just wasn't giving out enough grunt, so Cody dropped a 5.9-litre V8 under the hood. It makes 245hp stock, but with uprated cylinder heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold and aluminium radiator to name just a few of the mods, it's probably pushing closer to 270hp. Remember, American muscle is all about the low-end torque, something an engine like this has plenty of. To keep the Demon's newfound power in check, Cody also uprated the brakes to discs all round and relocated the battery to the boot (trunk).
Currently still at college, Cody takes his lime green Demon regularly to car shows. Even after all these years, he says the Demon "keeps me smiling every time I get to turn that engine over and hear the lope of the cam and the sound of open exhaust coming from a carbureted V8!"
As we all feel about our first love, Cody expects this relationship to last forever. He's put his heart and soul into it, adapting it to suit his needs. Next on the shopping list is a tubular K-member up front to keep it more planted in the corners. He's also eyeing up a pair of turbos, which should really make the V8 sing. Cody, you have our respect!
