Readers' Rides: Dakota's Stealthy Subaru Impreza WRX
Last time out we featured Ridgely's sweet Eclipse Spyder. There was a lot of love for the Mitsubishi, but there was a loud chorus in the comments calling for MOAR MODS! This feature isn't just about modified motors, but if you ask, CT delivers.
Dakota's Impreza WRX is a wolf in sheep's clothing, with a mod list as long as yer exhaust pipe. Check it out...
Hey there guys my name is Dakota and this is my '04 Subaru WRX. It's my favourite car, as there's something about getting in the driver's seat that just makes me feel happy and giddy every single time. Whether it's just on the way to work or blazing up a mountain pass, this car feels great. I took it from stock and have put a lot of work into it - maybe that's why I love it so much!
From the roar of the engine to the excitement of the all-wheel drive, this is the car for me and it has more than enough power for the street. Unfortunately in my home town in Montana there isn't a dyno, but I've calculated the output to be around 300hp and 280lb/ft.
My goal is to keep it as stock-looking as possible on the outside while modifying its guts to create an understated weapon. I love the look of surprise on peoples' faces when they think 'pshh its just a stock WRX'. Little do they know I've undertaken a ton of work under the hood! Here's a selection of the modifications I've made:
Speed Daddy front-mounted intercooler ISC coilovers VF39 turbo CNT downpipe Turbo-back exhaust Grimmspeed crank pulley Tial Blue 38mm external wastegate Grimmspeed 38mm external wastegate up pipe Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors Deatschwerks 301 fuel pump COBB intake COBB MAF Hose Borla header Perrin turbo inlet Perrin rear subframe lockdown kit Perrin ECBS Perrin air filter
Great to see so much time and energy going into a car, and it'll be interesting to see if future modders take to the new WRX so passionately. Whatever you think of the styling, if it sounds half as good as Dakota's, we'll be happy. Hear him mash the throttle below!
If you want your car featured on Readers' Rides, email darren.cassey@carthrottle.com with a pic and a few words explaining why you love it so much. If we like it, we'll feature it!
