A Renaultsport Twingo 133 Is A Cheap To Run Pocket Rocket For Just £4000
As much as we like the inexpensive, well-packaged new Renault Twingo, the version we’re really holding out for is the eventual hot RS model. The good news is, the previous Twingo range included a Renaultsport fettled version, and they don’t cost all that much to buy used.
The older Twingo is a much more conventional affair than the new one - it uses a front-engined, front-wheel drive setup - but in RS form, it’s properly tempting. Its naturally-aspirated, 131bhp 1.6-litre engine gives a 0-62mph time of 8.7 seconds. That’s not hugely fast, by any means, but this is one of those cars that’ll allow you to extract every last bit of that performance without the fear of ending up on the roof in a ditch.
They’re great to drive, too, with a nimble, lightweight chassis. Want more positives? RS Twingos are cheap to run, with inexpensive insurance, decent fuel economy and a simple engine that’s cheap to service.
More manufacturers should give a sporting option like this that won’t break the bank, while having warm performance that won’t scare the living daylights out of you. And in a used Twingo RS, you can get all that for as little as £4000.
That’s precisely how much this example is up for, and we think it looks promising. It’s done 64,000 miles and has a full service history.
Go on. Buy one and have some fun. You won’t regret it.
