Schumacher Recovery Hit By Potentially Fatal Lung Infection
After being in a coma since 29th December following a skiing accident, seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher has contracted a lung infection, thought to be pneumonia. It's certainly not the good news we've been hoping for, after it was reported two weeks ago that doctors had begun the 'waking up process' to gradually bring Schumacher out of his coma.
Coma patients have a higher risk of developing pneumonia. As they are unable to swallow, saliva can run into the lungs, causing potentially lethal infections. Doctors are said to be treating the infection with powerful antibiotics.
With little information being made available on Schumacher's condition, speculation has been rampant. Last week there were even rumours that the 45-year-old had died.
