Sexy Jaguar Estates Are A Thing Of The Past Because No One Wants To Buy Them

Due to shrinking demand for estate cars across Europe, we're unlikely to see Sportbrake versions of Jaguar's current saloons
Sexy Jaguar Estates Are A Thing Of The Past Because No One Wants To Buy Them

It’s science fact that wagons are sexier and cooler than their saloon counterparts, so naturally when Jaguar revealed the XE and more recently the new XF, the estate-ified renders came flooding in. The one above of Jaguar’s 5-series rival envisioned as an XF-RS Sportbrake by Xtomi Design particularly caught our attention, but sadly, it’s looking highly unlikely something like this will ever become a reality.

Automotive News quotes Jaguar design boss Ian Callum as saying “The [estate] market is massively shrinking. I’m very sad about it but it’s a very difficult market to justify.” Callum also mentioned that although Germany has the world’s largest estate market, it’s of little help to Jaguar as “what do Germans buy? They buy German cars.”

The kind of car that is popular in Europe and indeed worldwide is the SUV, which is why the British company created the F-Pace. In fact, Jaguar and Callum confidently told us at the car’s international launch recently that it’ll become the brand’s best-selling model. It’s not as cool as a wagon, but it’s a rather good car.

I concur! Even though this isn’t a Euro estate, it’s still pretty mint.

Well the fact that they called it ‘sportbrake’ probably didn’t help…

Surely it looks good, but the last estate car Jag has built wasn’t so great.
The X-Type was the perfect Jaguar estate for people who wanted neither a Jag nor an estate.

This seems weird to me, as Jaguars make up probably 30% of the cars I see every day… I suppose that what comes from living 15 miles from the JLR factory

If I had the money I’d buy them, it’s the price that’s the problem
