Shelby Just Whipped Out Its Bonkers 750bhp Mustang Super Snake

The new Ford Mustang is a revelation. It brings The Blue Oval’s pony car into the 21st century with handsome looks, genuine cornering ability and an appealing range of engines. Or at least, it’s appealing on first glance, but the guys at Shelby clearly felt the 5.0-litre V8 wasn’t packing quite enough heat.

To remedy that, it has created the Super Snake, a 750bhp+ chunk of in-yer-face aftermarket tuning. If you want the kit you’ll have to buy a Mustang GT - coupe or convertible - and then hand over another $49,995 for the SS package. For your cash you get a supercharger, half-shafts, a short-throw shifter, and a suspension upgrade, all of which come from Ford Performance.

You’ll also get 20-inch Weld Racing wheels shod in Michelin rubber - which will have a fun time trying to convert all that power into the road through just the rears - Wilwood six-piston front brakes, and a Borla exhaust.

That little lot will up your Coyote V8 to around 650bhp, so if you want the full fat version, you’ll have to tick a couple of extra boxes. Options include a more powerful Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger and an upgraded intercooler and heat exchanger.

Other options include a brake duct kit, transmission and differential cooling kits, Wilwood four-piston rear brakes, adjustable control arms for the rear suspension, camber/caster plates, racing seats, five-point harnesses and upgraded upholstery. Basically, you can go a bit mad speccing your SS in whatever way suits you. In a move that’ll no doubt delight the purists, this is also the first Super Snake that can be optioned with a manual gearbox.

In case you were worrying that all that extra power would be wasted trying to lug a hefty bodykit about, pretty much all of those extra bits you see are made from carbonfibre.

The Super Snake will be limited to 300 units for 2015, so if you want one, you better get in early. Unless you’re in the UK, in which case you can’t have one at all…
