Shelby has pulled the wraps off its upgraded Ford Mustang GT. The tuner's personalisation programme allows customers to pick from a range of chassis and performance upgrades, including a potent supercharged model, for a relatively low price.

Based on the 2014 Ford Mustang GT, the base Shelby version gets 430bhp, a moderate power hike of 10bhp. This is achieved thanks to a new air intake and sports exhaust system fitted to the 5.0-litre V8. The optional GT/SC model gets a supercharger and comes in either 525bhp or 624bhp guises. In its highest state of tune, the Shelby will hit 60mph in 3.7 seconds.

On top of the engine upgrades, the entry-level package also adds Ford Racing suspension, a short shifter and 20-inch alloys wrapped in specially designed tyres.

The cost of all this performance? The entry level Shelby GT package is $14,995 (£9278) - making it around $45,000 (£27,844) including the car - while the full-fat supercharged package costs $27,995 (£17,903) on top of the standard car.

It's difficult to think of a better power-to-price ratio, and it is this 'budget performance car' that is the Shelby's USP.
