A Simple ECU Tune Has Created A 9.6-Second McLaren 720S

With no modifications other than an ECU tune, the McLaren 720S will run quarter-miles absurdly quickly

Possibly the best thing brought about by the age of turbocharging is the ease with which more power can be squeezed from any engine. Tuners have created 1000bhp four-cylinder cars by the virtue of insane boost. But some turbocharged cars are just born crazy.

The McLaren 720S is one such beast. If conditions are all good the standard car will dip below 10 seconds on the quarter-mile strip. If they’re absolutely perfect, with the perfect launch as well, then we know 9.7 seconds is possible.

But EkanooRacing’s McLaren 720S, with only a light tweak of the ECU, will run reliable 9.6sec runs; its fastest to date is claimed to be a 9.53sec pass. In this video it clocks a 9.605sec run at night, terminating at 146mph. More mods are in the pipeline, too. Just how fast will this thing get?

I think the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) should have this as a factory option on the cars they get to breath on

probably they wont, it could’ve affect the emission, it’s just my theory though

Pretty sure the demon recorded a 9.6 aswell

I know this is fast, but like how fast is a 9.6, compared to say like an r8 v10 or something?

If I’m not mistaken new r8s run the 1/4 at least in high 10s, 10,7 or so. So the McLaren is at least one second quicker wich is a lot in a race like that. Not that I care though, gotta love that v10 sound.
