So this is my ‘85 Golf mk2. Shes had a rought life, but my goal is to restore her as best i can.
My granddad bought her back in the 2007. She was in pretty bad shape, but because its an old golf its pretty easy to fix. Parts are really easy to get so that wasnt a problem. My grandpa looked after this car really well. But sadly in 2011 we were driving home from my grandmas sister. She gave us some plants so we wanted to drop them off at our garden. But when we were driving home my grandpa who was sitting at the wheel had a stroke. So we crashed into a tractor.
This is how the car looked after the crash. Furtionately we werent going fast, so we all got out without a scratch. The car was totaled, but at least we all were safe. This little white golf saved our life. After that the car sat in a garage for about 5 years. We put it on a towtruck and drove about 100 km to our home so we could work on it.
I was pretty happy that i could finally start working on this car, because i knew that there is potential in this car. So in april 2016 the project started.
The first thing we did was take off all the damaged bodyparts. As you can see, the car looks pretty strange without the front end. After taking apart the whole front end i changed the oil and then it was time to see if it even started.
It was quite hard getting a car started after 5 years, but we finally did it with the help of my brothers car. You can read about that car on his profile. Its also quite interesting. But back to this car. We all were really happy when it started. It took about 1h to get this car started but when it finally did, well it didnt sound very good and it was smoking like crazy, but hey it runs!!!! It ran really bad. It would shoot out the exhaust and just idle poorly. So we had to take off the carb and clean it. By clean it i mean blowing compressed air into it. Also if you do that, then please wear safety glasses or dont be a dumbass, because you dont want to get fuel in your eyes. Trust me. It doesnt feel good.
It had some damage to the framerails so we fixed that by putting it next to a tree, hooking up chains and then using some kind of winch thing we had laying around we made it as straight as we could. Im sorry. i dont have any pics so you have to use your imagination. Sorry!
After getting a ‘’new’’ bonnet from a scrapyard and a new fender it looked a bit like this. It looked like a car again!! But after all that joy we found out the scrapyard sold us the wrong kind of radiator support so we had to get a different one.
Thats how the car looked for a bit when we got the right radiator support.
PS. that isnt the right rad support. We just wanted to see how it would look like.
And then after months of working on this beauty its finally (kinda) finished. Well at least it looks like a normal golf. Okay it needs new brakes, left indicator, that small grill thing on the bottom, but thats really just for looks, new tires because the ones on there rightnow are older than me and probaubly new wheel bearings. But it drives. Ive learned how to drive a manual in this car. This car has tought me a lot of things.
So you may be asking-what mods have you done on the way?
Well its got a front splitter from a gti. My uncle had a mk2 gti back in the day when he did a little bit of rally. Well thats all thats left of that car so for good luck we put it on there. And thats pretty much it for mods.
And then one day the radiator broke. It just spilled coolant everywhere. So now its been sitting like that for the past 2 months. Why has it been sitting like that? I have no idea. But ill definately fix it sometime soon. I promise….
Well i hope you enjoyed this little story about why i even have a car and why its so special to me.
Have a nice day!!!!

Ehrmahgherd Golf
Bro I absolutely love the car and the story behind it!
Good luck man, I know how hard it to to restore a car, let alone mod it
Is the front end leaning a bit to the left or is it just in the picture (first pic)
Yeah a little bit. We had to stack some washers under the fender to make it look better.
