Spa Francorchamps Isn't Happy About The Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Borrowing The Name Of Its Famous Corner

Remember that Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept? If you like the name - taken from the most famous corner of Belgium’s Spa Franchorchamps circuit - we have some bad news: if the car does actually go into production, it may have to be called something else. That’s because Infiniti’s decision to name this GT-R-engined beast after arguably the most famous race track corner in the world hasn’t gone down well with the circuit’s owners.

Infiniti needs to trademark the ‘Eau Rouge’ name, and according to Bloomberg, Spa Francorchamps director Pierre-Alain Thibaut has said the circuit will challenge the application. In a phone interview with Bloomberg, Thibaut said “It’s like they want to steal the brand from the circuit….we consider it exactly the opposite of fair play.” Nissan also apparently tried to get the Eau Rouge trademark in Japan, and in response, the circuit obtained a European Union trademark for the name.

It’d be a shame if the Eau Rouge name has to be dropped - assuming the Q50 ER does get made - but if it did, what would you like to see it renamed as? ‘Q50 130R’ has a nice ring to it…
