Spyker Peking-To-Paris SUV Update

I sure do love Spykers and and the Peking-to-Paris SUV promises to be the biggest and heaviest one of them all. We really haven't heard a whole lot about the SUV recently but a new report from website Cars UK helps to shed some light on the progress of the SUV. We first saw the original D12 Peking-to-Paris back in 2006.

Some of the report just confirms what we already know, like the 12-cylinder engine being dropped for an 8-cylinder. Possibly American-sourced, the V8 would be easier and more cost effective then the 12-cylinder, especially in this market climate. Spyker themselves has nodded to this though in it's press releases and website, referring to the vehicle as the Spyker D8 Peking-to-Paris rather then D12. I want to see the thing make it to production finally!

Expect the SUV to display more of the jet-inspired theme of the C8 Aileron, with the circular inlets and other jet-like cues. The C8 Aileron's headlights will make it to the D8 Peking-to-Paris as well, replacing the current C8 Laviolette-style ones from the propeller era.

Truly a sports SUV if there ever was one; that chrome coupe-like roofline is so cool! Perhaps one of the important bits of news in the article is that the company has secured Russian investment capital. Spyker has had some financial problems that have hindered development of future models like the D8. Things have been looking up though, with increased sales and now the news of more investment.

Apparently the investor particularly loved the Peking-to-Paris SUV and that has something to do with the quick moving forward on the project. That is evidenced by some recent spy shots of the SUV in testing. The article says we should expect to see the D8 Peking-To-Paris at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, with sales commencing soon after. Sounds good to me!
