The Stunning Fiat 124 Coupe Could Be With Us In 2017
It looks like Fiat is working towards building on its successful Mazda-based sports car by producing a hardtop variant within the next year or so. After revealing the ‘rally-spec’ 124 at the Geneva Motorshow (which featured a hardtop), it seems that Fiat is trying to distance itself from the MX-5 with this full-production hardcore coupe.
A source has told Autocar that the fixed-roof 124 is under development in Italy and could be revealed as soon as next year. The car will not be based around the Mazda MX-5 RF’s retractable hardtop and will instead be designed solely as a coupe from the get-go.
Whether this slick tin-top will feature Fiat’s 1.4-litre turbocharged engine or the Abarth 178bhp unit is yet to be decided, but the 124 coupe could be an enticing entry to the sports car market for any true petrolhead.
