Stupid Lorry Driver Texts While Driving And Crashes Into Innocent Motorists
This is the moment that 30-year-old Razvan Rusu took his eyes off the road for a few seconds to send a text message. In those few seconds, he smashed into the back of innocent motorists, injuring two people. Incredibly, nobody was killed in the smash, and more incredibly still, the quick-thinking driver of the Vauxhall Astra managed to duck out of Rusu’s way just before the massive impact. Romanian-born Rusu was sentenced to eight months jail time for dangerous driving.
So with further evidence that motorists continue to use their phones while driving, what do you think should be done about it? Instant, one-year bans for people caught on their mobiles? New in-car technology that sets the airbags off when the car detects that you’re being a moron?
Let us know how you’d tackle this problem to make our roads a much safer place.

I pity the fool
They need this in every driving school, instructors car and when you go to take the test
this might happen to you one day ..dont text and drive fr
You just made my day
Clever, she’ll have a fun day with the cops.
Still safer, to drink 1 beer while driving, than texting!
First I was wondering what the joke was because in Germany it isn’t illegal to drink and drive but to be drunk and drive. Poor ‘murica…
Heavier punishments won’t work unless you have the police to catch the people doing it. Last week, in the space of 30 seconds, I saw 3 cars drive past a school, all with their drivers glancing down at their laps obviously checking phones.
Worse than drunk driving in some ways. Atleast then, someone is driving the car.
I’m pretty sure he does still hit the Astra
Whilst I don’t condone it at all, I believe having an actual call on the phone is safer than texting as you are still paying attention to the road and a lot of time you can drive one handed. I think that since the law changed to make mobile phone use a specific crime, a lot of people switched to texting because holding your phone below the windscreen is thought to be less obvious and less chance of getting caught. However it is more dangerous to be looking down at your phone and not on the road.
Good point. Makes good logical sense. But then the next question: What can be done about this apart from commercial campaigns ? Because commercial’s doesn’t work (enough), that’ll have to be admitted…
I just dial the number, put it on loudspeaker, and lock the phone so it would turn off the display so the cops dont see it. Basicaly its being used as a walkie talkie or a cb radio which is not illegal as far as I know.
Disagree with this wholeheartedly, phone users are stupid to the core. They don’t give a monkeys if you can see them doing it, texting drivers are just as obvious as full on callers, one hand on the wheel, looking down a lot, crashing, driving badly, you can spot them a mile off. It’s ALL majorly distracting and cars now require so little input it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Put the phone in your pocket, if it’s that important pull over, always. There is never any excuse.
Understandable but then what about hands free? Plus most new cars have the ability to hold the call through the in car speaker system via bluetooth or otherwise.
Hands free is the way to go. Many times I encountered people swaying left and right, changing lanes slowly, making stupid decisions at junctions etc, only to later see them on their phones. It annoys me greatly when they’re trying to make a u turn with one hand while the other hand is holding the phone. Being on call is still distracting, but if you really have to, hands free should be the only choice
“quick-thinking driver of the Vauxhall Astra managed to duck out of Rusu’s way just before the massive impact” The truck still hit the astra though. wasn’t quick enough
While I was riding my motorbike saw a driver texting and driving so i revved my engine at him next to his window (which was closed) and he started to road rage and tried to be intimidating.
Fair play to you, there are so many idiots texting and driving these days - my dad was in a car crash because someone smashed into the back of his Lexus due to texting and driving. I beep my horn at everyone I see doing it - at the end of the day you’re only preventing a possible crash
Are you THAT guy in THAT video lol? Know what I’m referencing?
If we could make it so that speedcameras aswell as monitoring or speed could actaully spot if someone was on their phone. So when the camera spotted something it would take a picture and send it to the police where an officer would have the final say if someone was on their phone or not and if found guilty give a kind of punishment.
That would be extremely difficult to implement and prove unfortunately.
