The Super Exclusive F60 America Is Ferrari's Way Of Celebrating Everything 'Murica

If you’re a proud American and you’re dubious about whether one of those fancy European auto makers could ever make a car worthy of carrying your great nation’s name, fear not. Ferrari has created this car to celebrate 60 long and prosperous years in North America, and has channelled what it has learned about what the US loves to create this limited-edition model, of which only 10 will be made

So what, aside from throwing a football around and saluting bald eagles, do Americans love? According to Ferrari, big engines and open-top driving - now that’s something even us Brits can relate to. With that in mind, the boys in Maranello grabbed a few F12s off the production line, and chopped their roofs off. The F12 a worthy choice, its meaty 731bhp 6.3-litre V12 certainly falls into the ‘big engine’ category, and with 0-62mph dispatched in just 3.1 seconds, it’s plenty fast enough for quarter-mile battles.

Aside from the roof deletion, the exterior alterations are numerous, if subtle. The nose, wings and doors have been given a rework, while the addition of two leather-trimmed roll hoops backed by carbonfibre ‘flying buttresses’ are necessitated by the lack of a ceiling. The most obvious change comes from the removal of the ‘aero bridge’ at the rear. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, a fabric roof can be operated at speeds of up to 75mph.

The exterior paintwork echoes that of the classic North American Racing Team livery, while the interior has been inspired by historic Ferrari race cars: the driver’s seat and trim covered in red, and the passenger’s side dressed in black. The seats also feature a rather questionable American flag motif on the centre of each seat and backrest.

Want one? Tough. All 10 examples have been purchased at a price of around £1.56 million ($2.5m), more than six times the cost of a ‘standard’ F12.
