Tesla Model S Interior & Interface
Thank you, Gizmodo! Looks like you've done for us what Tesla (curiously) couldn't. If it weren't for these pictures, we wouldn't see any of the Model S's amazing interior screen. How come Tesla? The interior is an great selling point on the Model S!

Get a load of that! No buttons. Just 17-inches of touchscreen, 3-G Connected goodness. Oh, where do I begin? For a major gadget and technology fan like me, this is the ultimate in motoring. In some of my previous posts on the car, I wondered if the interface would be similar to the iPhone, and indeed it is.
In my (admittedly biased...I own one) opinion, the iPhone sets the standard for interface design. So, what do you expect? Tesla is located right in the same area as the Silicon Valley titan, and they share the same philosophy.
It Goes to show you what an creative, independent, tech-focused company can produce, without the massive budgets as the large companies either. Imagine if one of them finally "caught it"? The results would be amazing. Here's a closer look at that screen:
I was commenting with someone the other day that once (or if) Pandora makes it vehicles, it could help spell the final end for traditional radio. I think you know where this is going; you can listen to Pandora Radio in the Model S. Google Maps, Pandora; you name it, you can do it.
See the iPod "button"? The Model S enables full-integration with your iPod or iPhone as well, displaying your cover art and controls all right there on the screen. I like how they've designed everything to be butt0n-like in appearance . Nice touch.
I like how it has the two screens, with the TFT one replacing the instrumentation as well. I had that idea for an interior a few years ago. With my idea you could download different style gauges and also car profiles along with it with for instances changes in the car's ambient lighting and possible engine and suspension control software. For instance Luxury or Sport.
Remember that? It was the Lincoln MKT Concept's gorgeous interior. Unfortunately, virtually none of the interior's elements made it production.
The large-screen idea was similar in approach though. I had a (very) faint hope Lincoln might do something amazing and catapult itself into contention again with some radical but alas, it was not to be.
Tesla is happy to oblige. Comments Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's chief designer: "We're spending a lot of time on the interface," von Holzhausen said. "I don't understand how I can pay $299 for iPhone and then get in my car and still have to turn knobs."
Makes sense! Seeing these pictures of the interface only makes me more excited to see this car make it to production. Tesla's got the talent it takes to produce something amazing, I hope it will all work together to become a reality.
In the meantime, one thing is for sure; in battle between Fisker Karma and Tesla Model S, in my mind at least the Model S wins hands down. I so want one!
