Tesla's Autopilot Is Learning, And Becoming More Intelligent All The Time

When Elon Musk announced Autopilot, he said that every time someone uses the system it will make it better for everyone else. The car learns the road and remembers any inputs drivers have had to make so the next person to use that road will see the benefit
Tesla's Autopilot Is Learning, And Becoming More Intelligent All The Time

Tesla’s Autopilot is more than a ‘simple’ autonomous vehicle feature. Sure, its onboard computers read the road and maintain a steady course, and we’ve already seen it save one guy from a certain collision. But it’s the learning feature that’s most fascinating.

The way it works is that as the car drives along the road, it remembers what happened at each point, and contributes that to a central intelligence database. Some drivers were complaining that when the feature was first released, it would keep trying to take exits on the motorway, resulting in the driver having to tug it back into line. It would also struggle with sharper bends, often requiring drivers to take the wheel to stop the car drifting wide.

Tesla owners who drive the same road every day on their commute are finding that the car requires their inteference less often with every journey. Many owners are reporting that their cars are already far less likely to try to take motorway exits, while those who had to take over on sharper turns are finding their cars remember that they need to input greater steering angle without any human interference.
